Luís Castro to coach Al Nassr on the recommendation of Cristiano Ronaldo

As reported by ESPN, Portuguese coach Luis Castro will quit Brazilian team Botafogo to take over at Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr.

Castro, 61, has accepted an amazing offer to coach Al Nassr, which is led by Cristiano Ronaldo. Since firing Rudi Garca in April, Al Nassr has been seeking for a new manager.

According to ESPN, sources said that Ronaldo personally reached fellow countryman Castro to convince him to accept the Al Nassr role.

Castro’s last game as Botafogo coach will be Thursday’s Copa Sudamericana group game against Magallanes. Castro will sign a 2 year contract with Al Nassr, with the option to extend the agreement for another season.

Castro’s contract with the Rio de Janeiro club ends at the end of the year, and Al Nassr will pay Botafogo €2.3 million as part of his release clause.

The club from Rio de Janeiro released a statement to address Castro’s future: “Regarding the media reports around coach Luis Castro, Botafogo informs he has signed a contract with the club until March 2024”

The statement further reads, “Botafogo is preparing for an important match this Thursday, against Magallanes, for Conmebol Sudamericana where the group first place is in play…Everyone is fully focused on tonight’s game.”
