On Monday, 26 June, Real Madrid confirmed the extension of midfielder Luka Modric’s contract. Modric, one of the finest midfielders of his time, took to his Twitter account to share the news and stated that Madrid was his home.

After Cristiano Ronaldo, the Croatian footballer who won the Ballon d’Or during his spell at Real Madrid is one of the club’s greatest players. In a statement, the Spanish club praised Modric and revealed that he agreed to a 1 year contract extension. After his final season with Real Madrid, the 37-year-old player was expected to put up his boots.
Real Madrid signed Luka Modric in 2012. In his 11 seasons with Real Madrid, he played 488 games and won 23 titles, including 5 Champions Leagues.
Madrid has won 5 Club World Cups, 4 European Super Cups, 3 Leagues, 2 Copas del Rey and 4 Spanish Super Cups in addition to the European Championship.
Modric had his greatest individual season with Real Madrid in 2017/18, winning the Ballon d’Or, best FIFA Player Award and UEFA Player of the Year Award. He also won the Golden Ball at the World Cup in Russia and the Bronze Ball in the World Cup in Qatar.
This year, Madrid parted ways with reigning Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema and they are anticipated to fill the hole with either Harry Kane or Victor Osimhen.
