On June 15, one of the richest women in the world, MacKenzie Scott has announced a new round of charitable donations of total $2.7 billion for educational, community and other non profit organizations.
Scott informed through a blog post that she will be donating to “286 high-impact organizations in categories and communities that have been historically underfunded and overlooked.”
“People struggling against inequities deserve centre stage in stories about change they are creating,” the ex wife of Amazon Founder’s Jeff Bezos wrote on Medium.
According to her, she and her team are all attempting to give away a fortune that the systems enabled in a need of change. They continued, “In this effort, we are governed by a humbling belief that it would be better if disproportionate wealth were not concentrated in a small number of hands, and that the solutions are best designed and implemented by others.”
Wide range of organizations that work for education, arts, social action, child advocacy and other causes will receive these grants.
The organizations are Amarillo College in Texas, the Apollo Theatre in New York, the Children’s Defense Fund, Decolonizing Wealth Project, Filantropia Puetro Rico, Inner-City Muslim Action Network, Jazz at Lincoln Theatre, PEN America Writers’ Emergency Fund and Ubuntu Pathways.
Scott had surprised with two similar announcements in 2020 where she donated an amount of $6 billion to COVID-19 relief, gender equity, historically black colleges, universities and other schools.
