In a virtual interaction with fans, Madhuri Dixit was asked which film of hers she would like to remake. After giving the question a thought, she replied, “Sailaab,” she believes it has the potential to be made again. Although, she also said that the entertainment industry needs ‘fresh ideas and fresh writing.’
The film, released in 1990, also starred Aditya Pancholi and Suresh Oberoi.
In a video of her YouTube channel, the actress was answering rapid-fire questions asked by a fan. When she was asked about one of her films that she thinks can be remade, she pondered and named “Sailaab.”
Madhuri said, “I don’t know, it’s very difficult to say. Let’s throw this question to you guys. Which film would you like to be seen as a remake again?” As her fans named Wajood and Aaja Nachle, she said, “Pata hai, ek aur film thi, jiski kahaani bohot achchi thi. Uska gaana bohot popular hua, Humko Aaj Kal Hai Intezaar. Sailaab. Alag hi kahaani thi uski, woh ban sakti hai phir se (You know, there was another film whose story was very nice. Its song, ‘Humko Aaj Kal Hai Intezaar’ became very popular. Sailaab. The story was very different, maybe that can be remade).”
She further added and emphasised on newness and innovation of script and ideas, “But I don’t know, it’s very hard to… I think some things are best left the way they were, instead of trying to remake them. We need fresh ideas and fresh writing. Nayi soch, naye scripts (New ways of thinking and scripts)…we need that,”
She also talked about the impact of music and revealed the one stuck in her head, “Because I did one Reel for it and that song got stuck in my head after that. That makes you realise that our folk songs and tunes have so much impact on us. It connects us to our soil. And I just can’t get over that song, I just keep humming that all day long. Koi bachao mujhe, iss song se nikalo (Someone save me, get this song out of my head!) I want to sing something else. But that’s been stuck in my head.”
Later, she was asked to pick her favourite between Dil THo Pagal Hain and Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Madhuri couldn’t choose one, “These are two very different movies, though both were musicals. Both have very, very good music. One, I would say, was more modern and about love, and the other was more about traditions, being from an Indian family and how we connect. That was more like a family film, this was more like a romantic film. It’s very hard to choose from both because both had wonderful directors, wonderful co-stars and we had a blast shooting both the movies. So, for me, they are on equal footing,” she concluded.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Madhuri was last seen in Kalank. The actress is now gearing up to enter the OTT space for the series ‘Finding Anamika’ alongside Manav Kaul and Sanjay Kapoor.
