Maha Kumbh 2025: gets historic milestone of 50 crore people taking holy dip

The ongoing Maha Kumbh in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj created another milestone as the number of devotees who have taken the sacred dip in Triveni Sangam reached 50 crore on Friday evening. The figure surpasses the population of all but two countries.

A crowd of 50 crore people is the largest in human history for any religious, cultural, or social event, according to data made public by the Uttar Pradesh government and reported by the Press Tribune. As per PTI, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis’s wife, Amruta Fadnavis quoted, “More than 50 crore people, including us, have taken the holy dip at Kumbh, and we are extremely glad about it. The arrangements here are wonderful.”

The ministry said that more than 92 lakh devotees had swum until 6 p.m. on Friday alone, bringing the total number of visitors to Maha Kumbh to almost 50 crore. Prior to the Maha Kumbh, it was predicted that between 40 and 45 crore people would attend. The fact that the present number has exceeded all projections demonstrates the level of dedication that the annual event generates.

Millions of pilgrims from India and throughout the world continue to visit the fair every day, despite a fatal stampede on January 29. The Maha Kumbh, which is being hosted after a 12-year break, began on January 13 and will run until February 26 on the banks of the Triveni Sangam, which is the meeting point of the Yamuna, Ganga, and the Hindu-holy Saraswati rivers.
