Maha Kumbh 2025: Total 55 crore devotees took a dip at Triveni Sangam

According to the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday, a record-breaking 55 crore devotees participated in the Maha Kumbh Mela and took a sacred dip in the Triveni Sangam. January 13 marked the beginning of the Kumbh Mela, which will run through February 26 (Maha Shivratri).

According to an official statement, the Maha Kumbh has seen the most participation of any religious, cultural, or social event. Of India’s 110 crore Sanatan devotees, half have already submerged, and by the time of the final bathing ceremony on February 26, this number is anticipated to surpass 60 crore. The World Population Review, Pew Research, estimates that there are 110 crore (1.10 billion) adherents of Sanatan Dharma in India, which has a population of about 143 crore (1.43 billion).

According to the statement, half of India’s Sanatan adherents are among those who bathed at the Triveni Sangam. According to the report, more than 38% of India’s population has taken the holy dip relative to its total population. Globally, an estimated 120 crore (1.2 billion) individuals adhere to Sanatan Dharma, which means that more over 45% of Sanatanis have fully embraced the Sangam, according to Pew Research 2024.

According to the statement, there has been a notable increase in the number of saints and devotees at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the legendary Saraswati rivers. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had anticipated an initial count of 45 crore pilgrims for the Maha Kumbh, predicting that the major event would surpass records in terms of the number of devotees.

Nearly eight crore devotees participated in the holy dip on Mauni Amavasya, which had the largest attendance, and about 3.5 crore bathed during the Amrit Snan on Makar Sankranti.
