Maharashtra Cabinet Expansion: Ajit Pawar likely to score financial portfolio

Currently, all eyes are on the Maharashtra cabinet expansion, and the sources have shared that Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar will be getting finance portfolio. Ajit Pawar recently rebelled against his uncle, mentor, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar to join hands with Eknath Shinde – Devendra Fadnavis clan.

Deputy CM Ajit Pawar along with senior party leader Praful Patel met Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday, to discuss the participation of three parties – BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP – in Maharashtra cabinet expansion.

Pawar joined the ruling BJP – Shiv Sena government on July 2 along with his loyalists. However, there is no consensus on the distribution of portfolio thus far, which was already long due.

In August 2022, 18 ministers were inducted in Shinde-Fadnavis government after it came to power in June, while as per the rules, a maximum of 43 members can be council ministers. Neither Shinde nor Fadnavis gave a specific timeline for the expansion of the council of ministers. With NCP being the latest party to join the ruling government, the cabinet expansion is only pushed further, development on which is expected soon.
