Maharashtra has been hit severely by COVID-19 and now it seems that Chembur has decided to lead the state in the number of active COVID-19 cases especially the M-W Ward which has recorded the highest daily cases. The city recorded 25 new cases last week and the daily increase has been reported by 0.28% which is higher than the city’s average growth rate of 0.14%.
Municipality officials blames the negligence by the residents for not following the State and Central government guidelines for the prevention of COVID-19. BMC has issued a notice with the guidelines for the residential societies in the area and it has also decided to seal buildings and societies which have higher rate of infected people to contain the outbreak of the virus.
A BMC official said that they have issued the guidelines to stop the spread of the virus but if citizens are not careful they might also have to impose a local lock-down to contain the situation. He also mentioned that the process of vaccinating elderly people should start at the earliest and the AMC is said to be reviewing the issue and plans to reach a decision on it by tomorrow.
As of now the BMC is following the basic and important guidelines like thermal screening, no entry to outsiders in the residential areas, testing hawkers and shopkeepers from Khaogalli and vegetable sellers.
