MakeMyTrip reports 3,400% rise in Lakshadweep searches since PM Modi’s visit; Announces ‘Beaches Of India’ campaign with discounts

MakeMyTrip, an online travel company, reported on Monday that on-platform searches for Lakshadweep increased by 3400% after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to the union territory.

Taking to X account, the company wrote, “NewsFlash: We have observed a 3400% increase in on-platform searches for Lakshadweep ever since Honorable PM’s visit.”

With such a high search response and increased interest in Indian beaches, MakeMyTrip announced the ‘Beaches of India’ campaign, offering a variety of deals and discounts to encourage travellers to take a trip to beaches across the country.

“This interest in Indian beaches has inspired us to launch a ‘Beaches of India’ campaign on the platform with offers and discounts to encourage Indian travellers to explore country’s stunning beaches. Keep watching this space!” it added.

Amid the boycott of the Maldives campaign, EaseMyTrip, another online travel company, said earlier in the day that they will be suspending all Maldives flight bookings. Nishant Pitti, co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of the travel company said, “In solidarity with our nation, @EaseMyTrip has suspended all Maldives flight bookings”

Pitti explained the decision, stating that “country comes before business” and that other homegrown tourism companies should do the same.
