Mamata Banerjee, the chief of the Trinamool Congress, suffered injuries in a car accident in West Bengal on Wednesday. She was coming back to Kolkata after attending an official engagement in East Burdwan. In the impact, she had a minor head injury.

Banerjee’s car suddenly stopped to avoid crashing with another vehicle, as per news agency PTI. The sudden braking jolted her, causing an injury.

As reported by ANI, a vehicle suddenly came in front of the chief minister’s convo. The driver of the car was forced to use the brakes.

As per officials, Banerjee did not return to Kolkata by helicopter due to poor weather. According to local police, she travelled to East Burdwan by helicopter to address an administrative meeting.

Police told HT, “Shortly after leaving the venue a car strayed into the convoy and her driver had to apply the brakes abruptly. Since she always sits in the front seat.”

“She was tossed forward and her head hit the windshield,” they said. The injury was not serious. Mamata did not even seek medical assistance and left for Kolkata, they added.
