Man set on fire near Tikri protest site

Relatives of a 42-year-old man from Jhajjar in Haryana who succumbed to burn injuries alleged that four men associated with the agitation had set him on fire.

One of the accused has been arrested by the police whose name was mentioned in the complaint filed by the brother of the deceased, Madan Lal. The deceased has been identified as Mukesh who was a bus driver from Kasar village.

As mentioned by the Station House Officer (SHO) of sector 6, Inspector Jaibhagwan,  Krishan, one of the accused who was arrested, hails from Jind and was participating in the farmers protest at the Tikri border.  An argument escalated into a fight while the victim and the accused were drinking liquor together on Wednesday evening as revealed by the investigations. The accused was set on fire during that fight and other people involved in the crime are been searched by the police along with further investigations being conducted, he added.

A fair investigation was requested to the Haryana government by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha denying that farm protesters were responsible for the incident. One of the videos released by the SKM leaders showing the victim saying that he had set himself on fire for personal reasons, was shot at the spot as mentioned by one of them. The accused has said to be sprinkled with petrol or diesel and was set on fire as alleged by the victim’s family as said by Pawan Kumar, DSP of Bahadurgarh.
