Manchester City beat Fluminense 4-0 to win maiden Club World Cup

Manchester City crushed Brazilian side Fluminense 4-0 in the Club World Cup final on Friday, completing a spectacular year by winning their fifth trophy of 2023.

Pep Guardiola’s club has already won the FA Cup, Premier League, Champions League and UEFA Super Cup this year.

Alvarez had the travelling City fans roaring 40 seconds after the game began. Keeper Fabio did well to deflect Nathan Ake’s long effort, but Alvarez was there to the rebound, stooping to his hands and knees to chest it home.

In the 27th minute, Nino scored an own goal as he deflected Phil Foden’s strike into the net. In the 72nd minute, Foden scored the goal after sliding to tap in a powerful cross from Alvarez across the box.

Alvarez completed his brace in the 88th minute with a goal from just inside the box, leading City fans to break into “Blue Moon.”

Guardiola became the first manager to lead three distinct clubs to Club World Cup victories, having done it with Barcelona in 2009 and 2011, and Bayern Munich in 2013.
