Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez out two months with injury

Manchester United’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League next season have been shattered as it was revealed that defender Lisandro Martinez will be out for at least 2 months due to a knee ligament injury.

After missing most of the season due to a foot injury, the Argentine World Cup winner has just recently returned.

Martinez had made an impact on United’s recent progress. The 26-year-old was forced off during Sunday’s 3-0 victory against West Ham when his right knee crumbled under the weight of Vladimir Coufal as they battled for possession.

In an official statement, Man United said, “Lisandro Martinez has sustained an injury to the medial collateral ligament in his knee and is expected to be out of action for at least eight weeks. We all wish Licha a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the pitch later in the season.”

Martinez will now likely miss most of the remaining games of the season, while he could be available for the last seven Premier League games and the FA Cup finals.

Manchester United are currently in 6th position in the Premier League, six points behind Tottenham and eight behind fourth-placed Aston Villa, who they play on Sunday.
