Manchester United came from a two-goal blow to win 4-3 against Wolves on Thursday, with Kobbie Mainoo scoring in the 97th minute. United raced out to a 2-0 lead, and Marcus Rashford’s goal-scoring comeback, which came days after he was fined for skipping training following a night out, was sure to grab headlines.
After Wolves were brought back into the game by Pablo Sarabia’s penalty, Scott McTominay restored the visitors’ two-goal lead. But Mainoo, who is 18, added one last surprise with a spectacular solo run and shot in the latest display of his potential as an emerging star.
Rashford was reportedly fined £650,000, which is the equivalent of two weeks’ wages. However, the England international had an immediate impact upon his return, giving the visitors a perfect start after just five minutes with a beautiful finish from outside the box.
Rasmus Hojlund then converted Luke Shaw’s cross for his third goal in four Premier League games, as Ten Hag’s side delivered perhaps their greatest 45 minutes of the season before halftime.
With Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, and Casemiro returning to the lineup for the first time in months, the Red Devils significantly improved.
Casemiro, who was starting his first Premier League game since October, was called for a foul on Neto and Sarabia converted the penalty. After substituting Casemiro, McTominay scored with his very first touch. The Scottish international headed in a Bruno Fernandes corner.
Kilman equalized for Wolves with a corner kick, and Neto seemed to seal the comeback in the 95th minute by hitting inside Andre Onana’s near post.
