Mandatory to disclose future coal imports, says government

To tighten and curb all illegal imports of coal, the Indian government has made it mandatory for importers to disclose all future shipments and obtain permit before deliveries of cooking coal, steam coal and bituminous coal can be made.

The importers will have to provide with advance information in an online system for items they are importing and obtain an automatic registration number. India’s coal demand can increase by 2030 to 1.15 billion tonnes and 1.75 billion tonnes.
