According to sources, the Maoist movement in the Dandakaranya region suffered a severe setback when C Sujatha, also known as Kalpana, a member of the Central Committee of the outlawed Communist Party of India (CPI Maoist), turned himself in to the state police. The member who was caught turned himself in to the Telangana Police on September 13 with a reward of ₹40 lakh, according to Bastar Inspector General of Police (IGP) P Sundarrai.
The individual had been wanted in over 70 criminal cases in various Bastar districts. Sujata, also known as Kalpana, a member of the CPI (M) Central Committee who was banned, turned himself in to Telangana Police on September 13.
“In 2025, DRG, STF, COBRA, Baster Fighters, CRPF, BSF, ITBP, SSB, and other security agencies recovered over 250 bodies, including those of CPI (M) General Secretary Basavaraju, Central Committee member Gautam, and State Level Committee Cadres Sudhir, Renuka, and Bhaskar Rao, following various ambushes,” Sundarraj stated.
In addition to reflecting the profound crisis of trust, the Maoist member’s surrender was the consequence of the police’s aggressive and persistent operations, which were carried out in close coordination with the Central Armed Police Forces, intelligence services, and security units throughout the interstate border regions. More than 850 cadres have turned themselves in and reintegrated into society as a result of the government’s rehabilitation efforts, the IGP said, welcoming the surrender and referring to Kalpana’s arrest as a “significant event.”
“Over 850 cadres have turned themselves in and joined the mainstream as a result of the government’s rehabilitation initiatives. Amidst all of this, Sujata, also known as Kalpana, the member of the Central Committee and the head of the South Sub-Zone Bureau, is an important event.” He continued, “The CPI (M) is losing its leadership and direction.”
Recent Maoist arrests have resulted in the destruction of numerous hideouts in their strongholds as well as the significant recovery of explosives and weapons. In addition to making their top leadership doubt themselves, the prolonged operations have prevented these Maoists from reorganizing or growing.
