Mardaani 3 box office collections: Rani Mukerji starrer opens fair, nets ₹3.75 crore in India and ₹7 crore worldwide on day 1

Mardaani 3 had a decent opening day at the Indian box office, earning approximately Rs. 3.75 crore nett. That matches the Rs. 3.75 crore opening day of Mardaani 2 in 2019. Furthermore, the picture generated approximately USD 275K (Rs. 2.50 crore) in overseas revenue on its first day. The worldwide first day will cost roughly Rs. 7 crore.

Adjusted for inflation, the opening day of Mardaani 2 would be approximately Rs. 5.50 crore nett now. However, given that the theatrical market, particularly for films in this zone, is lower than it was in 2019, simply matching it nominally is a reasonable achievement. In today’s market, this may easily have been worth Rs. 1.50-2 crore.

Rani Mukerji, who has been in the profession for 30 years, will benefit from the opening. She is still operating as a lead at this time and commands some initial value, which is quite astounding. This type of start could have been difficult for most of the younger females; for example, Jigra, starring Alia Bhatt, opened to Rs. 4.50 crore. While there is certainly franchise value at work here, it is worth noting that in recent years, some businesses with significantly greater brand equity have opened lower than their predecessors.

Furthermore, the female-led action genre has always struggled to achieve success at the box office. The film performed best on the Mumbai circuit, followed by Mysore. Except for Delhi-NCR, the Northern circuits have historically performed poorly for the franchise, and this was no exception. West Bengal may have generated higher figures, especially given it was a standout market for Mardaani 2 and is traditionally a strong territory for Rani Mukerji films.

One of the issues with films recently has been a significant increase in prices. A film that used to cost X a few years ago now costs twice as much, if not three times as much.
