Mason Gooding opened up about filming a gruesome scene in Scream 6

Mason Gooding is set to return as Chad Meeks-Martin in the upcoming Scream 7, despite his character’s brutal stabbing in Scream VI. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gooding reflected on filming the gory sequel and teased what’s to come in the next installment.

Gooding recalled shooting the intense dual-Ghostface ribcage stabbing scene, calling it “really rad to film.” While many fans assumed Chad was done for, the character is set to make a comeback in Scream 7, which is currently filming in Atlanta.

Though the actor remained tight-lipped about major plot details, he did tease the return of horror veteran Matthew Lillard, who played Stu Macher in the original Scream.

Gooding expressed admiration for Lillard, calling him a major influence in his career. He noted that Lillard has been a horror icon since Scream (1996) and has remained humble throughout his career.

The real shocker? Lillard’s character, Stu Macher, is set to return in Scream 7—a twist that has fans buzzing. Gooding teased that the character’s dynamic in the new movie is “far different than anyone will be able to anticipate” and promised that the filmmakers would “absolutely deliver” on the surprises.

Scream 7 is being directed by Kevin Williamson, the original Scream screenwriter, who played a key role in shaping the franchise’s identity. Alongside Lillard, other returning stars include Neve Campbell and Scott Foley, making this a reunion of Scream veterans.

Gooding shared his excitement about what Lillard and Foley will bring to the table, describing Foley as “incredible” and hyping up the film’s new direction.

The Scream franchise has remained a horror staple since its 1996 debut, with each installment introducing new twists and killers donning the infamous Ghostface mask. Scream VI introduced a new masked killer terrorizing Woodsboro, targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect dark secrets from the town’s past.

With Scream 7 promising unexpected character developments and shocking twists, fans won’t have to wait long to see how it all plays out.
