Mayasabha: The Hall Of Illusion, featuring Jaaved Jaaferi, Veena Jamkar, Deepak Daml, and Mohammad Samad, has ended its theatrical run on a downbeat note. The psychological mystic film, directed by Tumbbad co-director Rahi Anil Barve, could gross as little as Rs. 60 lakh in India.
It showed some legs throughout the opening weekend but couldn’t maintain the same momentum, reducing its already limited show count. For the record, the film was released on January 30 alongside Rani Mukerji’s cop action drama, Mardaani 3, in very restricted release. If the film had been promoted better, it might have performed slightly better at the box office.
Approximately 95% of its earnings came from the first week alone. However, the film did not gain traction until the second weekend. Mayasabha: The Hall Of Illusion had an excellent possibility of being a clear hit endeavor provided it maintained strong for a long time, given the expenditure of less than Rs. 1 crore.
However, Rahi Anil Barve’s second film received a similar reaction to Tumbbad’s original run. It will be intriguing to see if Mayasabha can achieve ‘Tumbbad’ levels of popularity among cinephiles over time. While the picture received plaudits for its performances, uniqueness, and photography, it failed to captivate the audience as a whole. Mayasabha: The Hall Of Illusion’s box office performance was a disappointment. All eyes are now on Rahi Anil Barve’s next big-screen premiere.
