The enormous prehistoric shark from Meg 2: The Trench, will soon be munching its way onto your television screens since the movie will soon be released on digital, with a release date planned for tomorrow, August 25th. Meg 2: The Trench is still eating away at the global box office.
International box office
Despite a lacklustre $30 million domestic opening weekend, the film, which starred Jason Statham as Jonas Taylor, a character whose line of work might as well just be called “professional shark boxer” at this stage in the series, has been making waves at the international box office.

As international box office profits continue to pour in, the movie is flush with cash on the global box office. Therefore, even if the movie is a huge success overseas, it is believed that the PVOD market will help it grow domestically. The thriller, which was directed by Ben Wheatley, will be offered on a few digital distribution channels, including Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, Google Play, and Vudu, for $24.99 for home viewing and $19.99 SRP for a 48-hour PVOD rental.
On October 24, Meg 2: The Trench will also be available on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD. Statham reprises his part from the first movie as Taylor, a skilled deep-sea diver tasked with fending off a school of man-eating megalodon sharks. Due to the movie’s co-production between China and the United States, he is accompanied by an excellent Chinese ensemble that includes actors like Wu Jing, Shuya Sophia Cai, and others.
Plot
When a hostile mining explosion causes a number of terrifying sea animals to emerge from the ocean’s depths, the mission becomes dangerous. Page Kennedy, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Cliff Curtis, Skylar Samuels, and Sienna Guillory also appear in the movie alongside Statham. The screenplay was written by Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, and Dean Georgaris, and was adapted for the big screen by Ben Wheatley. It was originally based on Steve Alten’s 1999 novel “The Trench”.
