Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly saddened by the news that their close friends and Montecito neighbors, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, have relocated to the U.K. after Donald Trump’s win in the latest U.S. presidential election. According to InTouch Weekly, the couple has been a significant support system for the Sussexes since their move to California.
“They’ve been absolute rocks for Meghan and Harry,” a source shared. “They helped them settle into Montecito, introduced them to key people, and have been a huge part of their inner circle.” While Harry and Meghan understand the reasons behind the move, it’s a tough adjustment for them.
A Reason for Meghan to Return to the U.K.?
Ellen and Portia’s relocation to a cozy home in the Cotswolds could give Meghan a reason to visit Britain, where she hasn’t set foot since attending Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022. Concerns over security remain a significant hurdle, as Harry continues his legal battle with the U.K.’s Home Office over the right to pay for police protection during visits.
The loss of Frogmore Cottage, their former residence in Windsor, further complicates matters. However, Ellen and Portia’s presence could provide Meghan with a safe and welcoming haven. “Knowing that she’d have Ellen and Portia’s support might make her reconsider her stance on visiting,” the insider suggested.
DeGeneres and de Rossi reportedly adore their new life in England. Their Cotswolds home offers the laid-back charm they’ve been seeking, and they’ve already settled into a comfortable community. “Ellen loves the balance of nature, good people, and old-world charm,” the source explained, adding that Harry has shared advice about the area, having spent significant time there in the past.
Despite their friends’ departure, Harry and Meghan have no immediate plans to leave the U.S., as Harry values raising their children in California. While Meghan’s potential visit to the U.K. remains uncertain, Harry is set to return for ongoing legal cases, including his privacy battle against Rupert Murdoch’s News Group Newspapers and his appeal over security provisions.
For now, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex continue to focus on their lives in America, maintaining their privacy while navigating complex personal and legal challenges.
