Instagram has launched a new social media networking app called Threads. The new app serves as the main competitor to Twitter, as it offers many of the same features, including text-focused updates along with images and videos. The Threads app has been launched in more than 100 countries and it can be used on Android and iOS smartphones.
Threads allow the users to post updates of up to 500 characters of texts and 10 photos and videos. The post created on Threads can also be shared on Instagram and vice versa. Each post on the app is called Threads and as the name suggests, you can create a series of linked posts, similar to Twitter. Other users can like, comment, or reshare your post with their followers. Threads can also be shared with other apps and platforms.
Threads also offers various security and privacy options, including keeping a user’s profile private. Users can also filter out specific words, so the application won’t show them post with those particular words. The users can follow, restrict, block or even report others. It also allows the people to set permissions for who can reply to their posts, such as Anyone, People They Follow, and Mentioned Only.
Earlier, Threads was described as text based conversation app. Meta founder, Mark Zuckerberg, in his post wrote, “There should be a public conversations app with 1 billion-plus people on it.” He added that Twitter had that opportunity but failed to do it.
