Michael Keaton to return as Batman in the new Flash movie

Director Andy Muschietti shares an image of a blood-stained Bat-symbol on Instagram, hinting at the return of Michael Keaton as Batman.

The return of Michael Keaton’s Batman has been teased by the director of the much anticipated DC Extended Universe movie, The Flash, in an Instagram post, which shows a close-up image of a Bat-symbol on Keaton’s suit stained with blood. The mysterious and enigmatic post on Andy Muschietti’s Instagram handle came with no captions.

In June 2020, rumors began about Keaton reprising his iconic role as Batman alongside Ezra Miller in the upcoming Flash standalone movie, which was followed by a statement from director Andy Muschietti in August that he had big plans and a substantial role involving Micheal Keaton’s version of Batman. Now with the director of The Flash teasing fans with the Batman logo that Keaton wore in Tim Burton’s Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992), it is expected that Keaton will indeed don the cape of Batman once again after a gap of 29 years.

The first solo movie of the speedster superhero also brings back Ben Affleck’s Batman, Emmy nominee Sasha Calle in the role of Supergirl, the love interest of Barry Allen Iris West played by Kiersey Clemons, Maribel Verdú and Ron Livingston as Nora and Henry Allen, the parents of The Flash/Barry Allen. It also stars Saoirse-Monica Jackson and Rudy Mancuso in unrevealed roles. With most of the details about the movie’s plot being kept under wraps, it is expected to involve the Flashpoint storyline from DC Comics.

The movie is directed by Andy Muschietti who is best known for the ‘It’ franchise for Warner Brothers and is written by Christina Hodson, known for movies like Bumblebee and Birds of Prey. The film is said to introduce the concept of Multiverse in the DC Extended Universe movies, which will connect The Flash with Aquaman and Justice League and Michael Keaton’s Batman series. However, this will not be the first time that Multiverse is being hinted at in the DC Extended Universe, as we had already seen Miller’s version of Flash meet Grant Justin’s Flash in the crossover television event – Crisis on Infinite Earths.
