Mike Hussey believes that ICC should look for an alternative host for the T20I World Cup due to COVID-19 situation in India

Former Australian cricketer and CSK coach Mike Hussey who recently recovered COVID-19 and was stalled in India for the same has returned back to Australia. Hussey believes that the ICC should look for an alternative host for the upcoming big event the T20I World Cup reason being the growing crisis of COVID-19 in India.

“I think it’s going to be very difficult in my view to play that tournament in India. “We’re talking about eight teams in the IPL. I think there is probably a similar number, maybe more teams coming in from overseas [for the T20 World Cup], there’d be more venues. As I said earlier, if they’re playing in different cities, that is when the risk goes up”, Hussey told Fox Cricket upon his return to Sydney, where he is currently at a quarantine facility.

However, the ICC is still observing the pandemic situation in India and has kept UAE as the backup venue for conducting the tournament. Looking at the current situation in India and its tension with the pandemic situation is making India’s chances of hosting reduce. The final decision will be made after the annual meeting of the ICC Board in July.
