A very low-intensity IED (improvised explosive device) was detonated near the Israeli embassy in the heart of central Delhi on Friday.
The blast in the high-security zone occurred while India’s president and prime minister were attending a ceremony marking the end of Republic Day celebrations. While there are no reports of an injury as of yet, windscreens of several cars have reportedly been shattered.
The district around the embassy was sealed after the explosion as police and bomb-disposal experts took over the scene. Delhi Police is collecting all the CCTV footage in the vicinity.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu passed on a message to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Israel has “full confidence that Indian authorities will successfully investigate the incident and protect Israelis and Jews there.”
