Gaming and sports media platform Nazara Technologies Ltd., which is backed by billionaire investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, has made its first acquisition after it listed on exchanges in March 2021.
The company will be investing ₹20 crore to acquire 69.82 per cent stake in West Asia and Turkey-based mobile gaming publishing agency, Publishme’s parent Arrakis Tanitim Organizasyon Pazarlama, in a primary and secondary purchase via its subsidiary. It aims at strengthening its presence in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nazara Technologies, Manish Agarwal told Mint, “We operate across key gaming segments of premium Esports and gamified learning and have a strong presence in North America and India. Now if any of these entities will have to expand their footprint into newer geographies, they would like to expand their footprint into newer geographies, they would like to acquire execution capabilities. If we have to expand our business in MENA region we will need publishing and hence the Publishme acquisition helps us in this strategic growth.”
He added that for the success of the content one will have to understand the local cultural resonance, whether its for the local content or for the marketing of the content.
The CEO of Publishme, Özgür Özalp talked about how delighted the company is to join Nazara and lead the company’s foray in the MENA region. The company’s alliance with Nazara would offer a unique blend of network, global reach and local capabilities to further the growth of the gaming industry in MENA. Along with this, it will become a full-fledged publisher in the region.
