Mohit Suri reacts to Anurag Basu directing Kartik Aaryan’s musical romance; wishes team success

Mohit Suri breaks silence on walking away from Kartik Aaryan’s film; says Aashiqui is incomplete without Mahesh Bhatt

Mohit Suri, fresh off the box office success of Saiyaara, has addressed his earlier exit from a musical romance that reportedly starred Kartik Aaryan. The film, believed to be Aashiqui 3, is now being helmed by filmmaker Anurag Basu and is expected to release during Diwali this year.

Speaking about the shift, Mohit Suri told News18 there is no bad blood between him and Anurag Basu. “I call him dada. He’s someone I had assisted. I had worked under him. It’s not like he has stepped into something that was mine. I really look up to him,” Mohit said, clarifying that he was deeply focused on Saiyaara and doesn’t know the current status of Aashiqui 3.

Reflecting on the legacy of Aashiqui, Mohit added, “For me, Aashiqui 2 wasn’t just about the producers. It was also about what Mithoon, Ankit, Jeet dada, Adi and Shraddha added to it. But most of all, it was about a man called Mahesh Bhatt… If he’s not there, it’s not Aashiqui for me.”

Anurag Basu recently praised Saiyaara on X, calling it Mohit’s “best work yet.” The film, starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has crossed ₹100 crore globally.
