Mumbai Monorail suspends Chembur–Saat Rasta services for two months

After a series of setbacks over the past month due to technical issues, monorail services on the 19.54-kilometer route from Chembur to Saat Rasta will be discontinued starting Saturday for at least two months in order to modernise the system and guarantee long-term stability. In the last month alone, there have been at least seven instances of disruption.

The worst occurred on August 19, when intense rains stopped Mumbai and two monorail trains stuck at Antop Hill and Mysore Colony, requiring 1,148 passengers to be rescued. On September 15, 17 people had to be rescued when a monorail train stuck on a bend between two stations in the midst of heavy rain.

Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) officials stated that in order to install new rakes, upgrade the current fleet, and implement an improved signaling system, monorail operations had to be suspended.
