Security has been heightened across crowded areas and religious sites in Mumbai following an alert from central agencies regarding a possible terror threat, according to police sources.
The city’s police force has stepped up vigilance at key locations, including temples and markets, to prevent any potential incidents. Mock drills are being conducted in areas prone to high foot traffic, as part of precautionary measures.
In light of the alert, Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) in various city zones have been instructed to oversee and enhance security protocols in their respective jurisdictions. Religious sites, particularly temples, have also been asked to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activities to authorities.
Sada Sarvankar, chairman of the Siddhivinayak Temple Trust, confirmed, “We have been asked by Mumbai Police to increase the security of the temple and pay attention to all the security arrangements.”
On Friday, police conducted a mock drill in the bustling Crawford Market, which is home to two significant religious landmarks. This exercise was reportedly carried out as part of a broader security drill ahead of the upcoming festive season, according to officials.
While there is no immediate cause for alarm, authorities are ensuring that all necessary steps are taken to safeguard the city, especially in places known to attract large crowds.
