Veteran actor Mumtaz has shared an emotional memory of her final attempt to meet Dharmendra before his death. In a recent interview, she revealed that she had gone to visit the legendary star during his hospitalisation but was denied entry as he had been placed on a ventilator and visitors were strictly restricted.
Mumtaz said she waited at the hospital for nearly half an hour, hoping she might still be given a chance to see him. “I went to see him at the hospital, but the staff told me he was on the ventilator and no one was allowed to meet him. I sat there for 30 minutes… but I couldn’t. I left without meeting him,” she shared.
The actress added that the last time she met Dharmendra was in 2021 at his residence, unaware that it would be their final meeting. She also expressed her condolences to Hema Malini, noting how devoted the actress always was to her husband. “She must be feeling this loss very deeply. She was truly in love with him,” Mumtaz said.
Mumtaz and Dharmendra were one of the most popular onscreen pairs of their era, delivering memorable performances in classics such as Kaajal (1965), Aadmi Aur Insaan (1969), Mere Humdam Mere Dost (1968), Jheel Ke Us Paar (1973), and Loafer (1973), a film that solidified their iconic pairing.
