Continuous arrests of the protestors in Myanmar who are protesting the detention of democratically elected leader Aung Sang Suu Kyi fueled the protests even further.
Thousands of protestors swarmed a business hub in Yangon, capital city Naypyitaw and second city Mandalay among other places. One protestor held up a sign saying “Stop kidnapping at night”, referring to the arrests made by the ‘junta’ (or military) of protestors. The United Nations Human Rights office said in a statement that over 350 people have been arrested since the coup on 1st February. The protestors are agitated because of videos that show arrests of people who have criticised the military rule.
The army continues to maintain that they have taken control over governance because of alleged fraud in the Democratic elections that took place in November. Aung Sang Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy won the election by a massive number of votes.
