National Sandwich Day 2023: Top 5 different Sandwich types

Each year on November 3rd, people celebrate National Sandwich Day. The day serves as a reminder to give our loved ones permission to pause from their everyday routines and enjoy a sandwich, which is a meal that consists of two pieces of bread with a filling in between. It’s interesting to remember that sandwiches have long been a favourite food among people. Its official name was granted by John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich. To put it briefly, National Sandwich Day is seen as a chance for people to spend time with their families.

Here is Top 5 Different Sandwich types:

1. Traditional Sandwich

Naturally, the first thing that comes to mind when most people hear the word “sandwich” is the traditional sandwich. Two bread slices with a filling of some kind between them. Classic sandwiches that spring to mind are gammon and Swiss on rye, bologna and cheese or peanut butter and jelly.

2. Grilled Sandwich

In essence, grilled sandwiches remain standard sandwiches composed of a filling sandwiched between two slices of bread and cooked on a grill. But because of the way they’re prepared, they merit their own category. You will recognise the difference if you have ever had a grilled cheese that is oozing with flavour as opposed to a cold cheese sandwich on bread. The idea of a “cheese sandwich” is composed of two slices of freshly baked bread and cold cheese. The phrase “grilled cheese sandwich” conjures images of luscious, gooey goodness sandwiched between two pieces of fried bread. It’s similar to contrasting apples and oranges. Even though the ingredients are the same, the sandwiches are not at all the same.

3. Open Faced Sandwich

The second meaning of the word “sandwich,” which is one slice of bread covered in food, is satisfied by an open-faced sandwich. Open-faced sandwiches include dishes like avocado toast or eggs benedict, as well as sweeter options like cream cheese and strawberries on toast or bread.

4. Double-decker Sandwich

Sandwiches are defined as two or more pieces of bread with filling in between. The phrase “or more” enters the picture here. This category includes traditional sandwiches like the multi-layer Dagwood sandwich or the double decker club sandwich. Even McDonald’s Big Macs are double-decker sandwiches with a third bun tucked in the middle.

5. Wrap

Even though the definition of a wrap is debatable, most restaurant menus feature it in the sandwich sections, and the majority of governmental organisations still classify wraps as sandwiches. To make a wrap, fill a tortilla, then “wrap” the tortilla around your fillings, just like you would with a burrito. The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance claims that because burritos are a “wrap,” they should be categorised as a sandwich.
