Chennai witnessed a rare sight on Thursday as actor Nayanthara attended the launch of her much-anticipated film Mookuthi Amman 2. Known for avoiding public events and promotions, her presence at the ceremony surprised fans and the film industry alike. Dressed in a stunning red and gold saree, Nayanthara participated in the pooja ceremony and even filmed her first scene.
The film marks a major shift, with Sundar C taking over directorial duties from RJ Balaji, who helmed the 2020 hit Mookuthi Amman. The sequel is produced by Ivy Entertainment and Vels Film International, with a reported budget exceeding ₹100 crore. Producer Ishar Ganesh revealed that Nayanthara is fasting for a month to prepare for her role as the titular goddess.
At the event, Nayanthara shared her enthusiasm, saying, “Playing this role is more than just a performance—it’s an emotion. With Sundar sir’s vision, we’re bringing a story that will leave an impact on every audience member.” Sundar C promised a grand cinematic experience, stating, “We’re elevating everything—bigger action, deeper storytelling, and unmatched visual grandeur. This film will connect with audiences across India and beyond.”
The star-studded cast includes Regina Cassandra, Yogi Babu, Urvashi, Garuda Ram, Ajay Ghosh, and Duniya Vijay. Mookuthi Amman 2 will also release in Hindi as Maha Shakti and will feature a stand-alone storyline. With high expectations and a powerful narrative, the film promises to be a visual spectacle.
