Veteran actor Neena Gupta has once again spoken honestly about the challenges she faced in the early years of her career, shedding light on uncomfortable experiences on film sets and the professional compromises she made out of necessity. In a recent conversation with Times Now, the actor reflected on roles she took up during a period when financial security was a pressing concern.
Gupta admitted that some of the films she worked on left her deeply dissatisfied. Recalling certain projects, she said there were times when she returned home hoping those films would never see the light of day. She cited one such role where she was cast as part of a gang led by Shakti Kapoor, describing the part as extremely limited and creatively unfulfilling.
The actor also revealed that she was subjected to verbal abuse by a director on set, even when she was not at fault. She spoke about being spoken to in an unacceptable manner, explaining that her circumstances at the time forced her to endure such behaviour. Gupta said she would not have agreed to those projects had she been in a position to choose differently.
Despite those experiences, Gupta’s career has seen a strong resurgence in recent years, with her performances earning widespread appreciation. She shared that she has recently been approached to direct projects but made it clear that she has no plans to step behind the camera at this stage.
According to Gupta, acting remains her priority, especially since her career is currently in a good place. She expressed contentment with the opportunities coming her way and indicated that she does not wish to divert her focus into other creative roles for now.
