Netflix has had to make a quick adjustment to its post-BAFTA Film Award party plans due to an unexpected fire at the Chiltern Firehouse on February 14, two days before the event was set to take place. While the blaze resulted in an evacuation of the venue, thankfully, no casualties were reported. The Chiltern Firehouse, a beloved spot for celebrities, will remain closed until further notice.
In light of the fire, Netflix quickly found an alternative venue for their annual celebration. The event will now take place at The Twenty Two, a luxury hotel located in Mayfair’s Grosvenor Square. This last-minute change highlights Netflix’s commitment to celebrating its 16 BAFTA nominations, which include 11 for Emilia Pérez, one for Daughters, one for Will & Harper, and three for Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl.
The Chiltern Firehouse had been the chosen venue for Netflix’s post-BAFTA party since 2019 and became a go-to hotspot for the who’s who of the film industry. Despite the disruption, the party will still bring together top actors, filmmakers, and executives, including from rival studios.
Chiltern Firehouse’s owner, Andre Balazs, expressed his gratitude for the heroic efforts of the 120 firefighters who managed to contain the fire. He shared that one of the first responders had a personal connection to the venue, having worked there when it was still a fire station three decades ago. Balazs also acknowledged that, while the firefighters might not have expected such a Valentine’s Day, their quick response saved a significant landmark.
