New Delhi AI declaration gains support from 80 countries worldwide

The AI Impact Summit 2026 concluded on Friday with the adoption of the New Delhi Declaration on AI Impact, which was signed by 88 countries and international organisations. The Delhi declaration emphasized national sovereignty, making AI more accessible, and strengthening international cooperation to guarantee that the advantages of artificial intelligence are shared equitably, according to a government statement released on Saturday.

More than 5 lakh people attended the AI summit, which took place in New Delhi from February 18 to 20. The summit brought together global policymakers, industry executives, and technological experts, highlighting India’s role in driving international AI governance and infrastructure development.

The Delhi Declaration, signed by the US, UK, China, France, Israel, Canada, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and the European Union, emphasizes the principle of “Sarvajan Hitaya, Sarvajan Sukhaya” (Welfare for all, Happiness for all) in ensuring that the benefits of AI are shared equitably across humanity.

The proclamation called for action in seven critical areas, including democratizing AI resources, economic growth and social good, secure and trustworthy AI, and access to social empowerment, among others. However, the declaration’s emphasis remained on democratizing AI and fostering cross-country collaboration in order to replicate AI use broadly.

Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw described the conference as a “grand success,” noting that India got infrastructure investment commitments totaling more than USD 250 billion.
