New Zealand beats India comfortably in the 4th ODI; Richa Ghosh’s half century lies in vain

Put in to bat by India skipper Mithali Raj, New Zealand rode on Amelia Kerr’s unbeaten 68 and Suzie Bates 41 to post a mammoth 191 for five in 20 overs.

Richa Ghosh’s half century, the fastest by an Indian in women’s ODIs, went in vain as India lost the 4th ODI against New Zealand by 63 runs in Queenstown on Tuesday.

The match was reduced to 20 overs a side after rain delayed the toss by almost five hours.

Put in to bat by India skipper Mithali Raj, New Zealand rode on Amelia Kerr’s unbeaten 68 and Suzie Bates 41 to post a mammoth 191 for five in 20 overs.

In reply, the Indian top order crumbled under pressure with the visitors reeling at 19 for 4.

Richa (52) was the top scorer for India while and skipper Mithali pitched in with 30 before the visitors were all out for 128 in 17.5 overs.

This was India’s fifth defeat on tour having lost the lone T20I before succumbing in all four ODIs.

New Zealand’s all-rounder Brooke Halliday missed the fourth ODI and will also remain unavailable for selection for the fifth and final match on Thursday after being forced into quarantine due to her partner testing positive for COVID-19.

The 26-year-old returned a negative result for the virus on Monday. She will be tested again on day five of her isolation.

“Halliday dined outside with her partner, who subsequently tested positive for Covid-19, and was therefore required to isolate in her hotel room for seven days,” New Zealand Cricket said in a statement.

“Halliday returned a negative Covid-19 test yesterday. She will be tested again on day five of her isolation and if she returns a second negative test, can finish her isolation period and re-join the team on Friday.”
