New Zealand cricket team’s most happening all-rounder Kyle Jamieson has been awarded the New Zealand’s ‘player of the year’ in the 2021 edition of the ‘player’s cap’. The award is given based on the votes cast by the New Zealand cricketers and their support staff.
Brendon McCullum was the first New Zealand cricketer who was awarded the ‘player cap’ in the year 2012. On the other hand, Kiwi’s captain, Kane Williamson has won the same award thrice, 2015-2017, as reported by Cricinfo.
The award was presented to Jamieson from New Zealand’s BJ Watling, who is going to retire from all the formats of the game once the UK tour is done. Kyle, speaking, “This is pretty special and not something that I expected at all. There has been some great guys who have won this before, and being recognized by your peers is the ultimate”, he said.
He also added, “The wins are what I enjoy most, that Bay Oval Test match was a special one going into day five, my first-day five-match, and just being part of that Test victory is what I value the most.”
Jamieson will be next seen playing against the England cricket team in a two-match Test series starting from tomorrow at the Lord’s cricket ground.
