New Zealand’s debutant Devon Conway breaks former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly’s record

The Blackcaps opener Devon Conway on Wednesday broke former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly’s record by becoming the sixth cricketer to hit a Test hundred on his debut at Lord’s. On an opening day of the ongoing first Test against England, Conway reached the feat. He scored an unbeaten 136 as the Kiwis marched to s strong position and finished with a score of 246 for 3 wickets at the end of the day’s play.

The former Indian skipper Ganguly had scored 131 on his Test debut at Lord’s in 1996 which was also the highest score by a player at the venue until Conway knocked 136 runs on Wednesday. As a fun cool fact, both Conway and Ganguly also share a birthday of July 8th. Along with this ton, Conway became the third non-English batsman to score a century on test debut at Lord’s against the mighty England team.

Also an Australian batsman Harry Graham had scored 107 against England on his test debut in 1893. Devon just not only broke the record of Ganguly but also his name was written into the history of Lord’s cricket ground. The player who scores a hundred or picks a five-wicket haul or more in the Lord’s, their name and record are written into the history board of Lord’s cricket ground.
