Nina Hoss and Ina Weisse are back again together, bringing forth a banger

Nina Hoss reunites with director Ina Weisse for their latest collaboration, Cicadas, a film that has already generated buzz following its premiere at this year’s Berlin Film Festival. This marks their second project together after The Audition (2019), and fans are eager to see what they bring to the screen this time.

The recently released trailer sets a quiet yet intriguing tone, opening with serene visuals of tree-lined roads before introducing a young girl and her mother, struggling to get by. The story gradually unfolds as Saskia Rosendahl’s character, Isabell, moves to a new place in search of work, leading her to cross paths with Hoss’s character, Anja.

Their first encounter on a bridge hints at deeper connections, as Isabell recalls that her father once worked for Anja. What begins as a simple meeting soon blossoms into a meaningful relationship, with the two women finding comfort in each other amid life’s chaos.

According to Deadline, the film follows Isabell as she juggles multiple challenges—caring for her aging parents who can no longer live independently, managing her strained marriage to Philippe (played by Vincent Macaigne), and traveling between Berlin and her parents’ stunning yet isolating modernist home, built by her father in better days.

Amidst this turmoil, Anja and her young daughter Greta enter Isabell’s life, forging an unexpected yet profound bond. However, as their connection deepens, Isabell begins to question everything she once knew, with the boundaries between their lives—and even their identities—starting to blur.

With Cicadas, Hoss and Weisse once again dive into a complex, emotionally charged narrative, offering a poignant exploration of human connection, loneliness, and self-discovery.
