No compromise on mother tongue, says Manik Saha

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said on Saturday that everyone should speak in their own tongue first and foremost, with no compromises. Speaking on the sidelines of an event honoring International Mother Tongue Day in Agartala, Saha stated, “Today is International Mother Tongue Day.

Its history is widely known. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has stated that everyone should communicate in their mother tongue. He stated that everyone should engage with their children at home in their native language, or else our traditions, history, and culture would be forgotten.

CM Saha recalled Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s emphasis on communicating in one’s mother tongue in his address at a joint regional official language conference on Friday, saying, “As said by Home Minister, I want to say that first is your mother tongue, and then some other languages, be it Hindi or any other language. It is not harmful to know any language. You can learn English as well, but mother tongue comes first.

In this instance, there will be no compromise.” The Home Minister, who was in Tripura for a one-day visit, advised everyone to converse with their children in their mother tongue at home, or the youngsters would be denied access to their mother tongue literature, traditions, and cultures.

He stated that there is no quarrel between the Hindi language and Indian languages because they are sisters from the same mother, and that when Hindi is encouraged, all languages inevitably strengthen.
