O Romeo maintains run despite Friday dip, 8-day collection Rs 44 crore

O’ Romeo had another drop in sales on its second Friday, with receipts falling below Rs. 2 crore nett. The decline since Thursday was 25-30 percent. Films these days tend to stay flat on Fridays, particularly those catering to larger audiences. However, O’ Romeo had a partial holiday on Thursday, and a BOGO offer was in force on weekdays, which kept business up.

As a result, a drop was widely expected, though it may have been softer, around 10-15%. What it contains is a little excessive. There was competition from two new movies, Do Deewane Seher Mein and Assi, but none received a start, and O’ Romeo remained the film with the most exposure.

The second weekend is likely to generate Rs. 8 crore in nett revenue, bringing the total to roughly Rs. 50 crore by Sunday. The film is a flop, but since there won’t be much going on at the box office till Dhurandhar: The Revenge and Toxic are released, it could make it to Rs. 60 crore nett. After the way the picture performed in its first weekend, it appeared that attaining Rs. 50 crore nett would be challenging, if not impossible.

However, with the help of the BOGO deal and some outside assistance, the film will now make it there. Not that it changes anything about the larger picture.

It is a costly picture for its face value, requiring at least double the amount of Rs. 50 crore. The quick, unexpected holding on Monday and Tuesday gave the impression that it would come closer, but the plunge on Wednesday eliminated that option, and it has only gone down since then.
