Officials of the Dhaka Premier League were caught up in a conflict between police and protestors

After being caught in the thick of a conflict between protestors and police, two match referees and six umpires from the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) narrowly avoided being injured.

“The car ferrying the eight officials to the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) on Saturday was attacked during a conflict between protesting garment workers and the police in the Savar industrial area,” according to a report on ESPNcricinfo.

The car was damaged to bits. Other vehicles in the tailback were also targeted, according to the report. While there were no significant injuries, the authorities were covered in glass shards from the damaged windows, with the assistance of local police and BCB security staff, the officials were able to escape.

The event occurred on Saturday morning when thousands of enraged workers went on a 15- to 20-minute rampage against cars caught in traffic. The officials eventually made it to BKSP and officiated in the two DPL games that had been delayed by 30 minutes. Match referees Debabrata Paul and Adil Ahmed, as well as umpires Shafiuddin, Imran Parvez, Abdullah Al Motion, Barkatullah Turkey, Tanvir Ahmed, and Sohrab Hossain, were the eight officials.

This season, BKSP has two grounds, with four games being played on each match day. The match officials travel 40km from their hotel in Dhaka, where they are staying in a bio-secure bubble, to go to the stadium.
