Olympique Marseille interested in Philippe Coutinho

Philippe Coutinho has mostly gone unnoticed at Barcelona, but he could be set for a fresh challenge in Ligue 1 this summer.  Marseille’s leaders may look for a world-class player to become a real challenger for the title of French champion.

Philippe Coutinho is being pushed out of Barcelona due to the club’s financial difficulties. According to the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Jorge Sampaoli hopes to lure Coutinho to Marseille. Barcelona has extended the Brazilian midfielder’s contract for another two years. Olympique Marseille will compete in the next Europa League and hopes to bolster their squad for the French Championship as well. Meanwhile, Coutinho is still recovering from his injuries while on holiday in Brazil.

It’s not certain that Coutinho will accept a significant pay cut from his current wage. As a reminder, the footballer is under contract for 8.5 million euros each year. In any case, if Pablo Longoria can deliver such a player to his coach, the Marseillais will have the weaponry to compete for the title of French champion alongside PSG, Monaco, Lille, and Lyon.

Marseille has lofty goals, and Sampaoli is pushing for a deal for the former Inter and Liverpool midfielder. Keep an eye on him.
