Omarion recently opened up about his three-year celibacy journey during an appearance on André Duqum’s Know Thyself podcast on August 20, 2024. The R&B singer, known for his time with B2K, shared how his decision to embrace celibacy led to significant personal growth mentally, physically, and spiritually.
He explained that his choice was a form of self-challenge, driven by his desire to find something more meaningful in his life. At the height of his career, when he was regarded as a sex symbol in the R&B world, Omarion chose celibacy as part of his quest for deeper self-understanding and purpose.
The journey began during his exploration of his Christian faith, where he studied the Bible and reflected on his spirituality. Although he later moved away from Christianity, he credited this period with providing him the opportunity to step away from the pressures of fame and focus more on his music and personal development.
Omarion shared that celibacy gave him the discipline to control aspects of his life like food and sexual urges, which helped him stay focused and true to his artistic vision. Reflecting on the experience, he noted how it allowed him to create music that felt authentic to who he was, rather than living a double life.
He also acknowledged that many found his decision surprising, especially considering his success in the music industry at the time. Some questioned why he wasn’t using his fame to pursue romantic relationships, but Omarion felt there was more to life than that.
Interestingly, Omarion revealed that he wasn’t alone in his decision. He discovered that other musicians, like Lenny Kravitz, had also chosen celibacy, with R&B singer Mya sharing in July 2024 that she had been celibate for seven years, a choice that brought her mental clarity and a fresh perspective on relationships.
