Pakistan places a ban on 26 countries including India over COVID-19 fears

Pakistan has placed 26 countries under strict travel restrictions including India over the fear of COVID-19. To check the spread of infections in the country, travelers from these 26 countries will be permitted to visit it under specific guidelines provided from the COVID-19 management authority of Pakistan.

According to Dawn, India has been placed in the C category. The National Command and Operation centre (NCOC), looks after measures to contain the pandemic in the country, has revised air and land travel categories with immediate effect.

An official of Pakistan’s Ministry of Health Services (NHS) stated, “countries in A category are exempted from the mandatory COVID-19 test, travelers from areas in B category require a negative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test that must be taken within 72 hours of the travel date while countries in C category are restricted and people can travel only under specific NCOC guidelines.”

Argentina, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Columbia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Mexico, Namibia, Nepal, Paraguay, Peru, South Africa, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, the Philippines, Trinidad and Tobago, Tunisia, and Uruguay are the countries placed in the stringent C category.

Except for the C category countries, the rest are included in B category. In the last 24 hours, Pakistan has reported 1,194 new cases and 57 deaths.
