Panchayats across India to observe constitution day on November 26 with Preamble readings

The Panchayati Raj Ministry announced on Monday that about 2.63 lakh Panchayats across would commemorate Constitution Day on November 26 and recite the Preamble of the Constitution in their native tongues. The ministry said in a statement released here that the Preamble would be read in front of top officers and personnel on Constitution Day, under the direction of Secretary Vivek Bharadwaj.

“The Ministry of Panchayati Raj is coordinating the nationwide observance of Constitution Day on 26 November 2025 across all three-tier Panchayati Raj Institutions and Rural Local Bodies ,” the notification stated. “Panchayats across the country will hold mass readings of the Preamble in local languages, along with discussions, seminars and quizzes on constitutional values,” said the ministry.”

From 10:00 am to 6:45 pm, a countrywide Constitution Connect – Preamble Reading Relay will take place, with each State and UT participating for a 15-minute portion. The Ministry’s official YouTube channel will broadcast the show live, according to the statement. States and UTs have been urged to encourage PRIs and RLBs to arrange “Our Village, Our Constitution” events with youth groups, self-help groups, and community organisations, as well as to use community art to build Preamble Walls.

According to the ministry, state-level coordination cells have been formed to support these efforts, paying particular attention to guaranteeing successful participation in PESA areas. The project is being carried out in collaboration with SIRD&PRs, Panchayati Raj Associates, PESA Mobilisers, State and UT Departments of Panchayati Raj, SoEPR at NIRD&PR, and other related networks.

The ministry noted that widespread participation at the grassroots level and thorough preparation have been made possible via extensive virtual discussions. Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Diwas, has been observed on November 26 since 2015 to honour the Constituent Assembly’s November 26, 1949, adoption of the Indian Constitution.
