Pashu Vikas Day by SMFG India Credit Benefits 19,000+ Cattle in Maharashtra; 1.55 Lakh Lives Impacted Nationally

SMFG India Credit successfully concluded the 8th edition of its flagship rural outreach initiative, Pashu Vikas Day (PVD), on February 14, 2026, impacting over 1.55 lakh lives nationwide.

In Maharashtra alone, the initiative was conducted at 59 locations, providing essential healthcare services to more than 19,000 cattle and benefiting over 5,200 rural households. The camps offered free veterinary consultations, medicines, vaccinations, and advisory sessions on improving milk yield and animal productivity.

Nationally, the programme treated approximately 1.4 lakh cattle and extended healthcare support to over 14,000 individuals, covering more than 30,000 households across 16 states through 510 SMFG Gramshakti branches.

Launched in 2014, Pashu Vikas Day aims to address gaps in livestock healthcare and strengthen rural livelihoods. The 2026 edition was themed ‘Sarvottam Seva: Pashu, Parivar aur Pragati’, reinforcing the interconnectedness of livestock health, family wellbeing and economic advancement.

Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Ravi Narayanan, Managing Director & CEO, SMFG India Credit, stated that the programme embodies the company’s commitment to nurturing rural ecosystems through sustained and scalable interventions.

The initiative has earned national and international recognition, including entries in the Limca Book of Records, Best of India Records, World Book of Records and World Records Union. In 2025, it set a Guinness World Record for organising the largest cattle welfare lesson conducted simultaneously across multiple locations.

SMFG India Credit operates as an NBFC-ICC regulated by the RBI and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Japan-headquartered Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group.
