Former goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel claims that Denmark players didn’t want to restart their Euro 2020 opener against Finland following teammate Christian Eriksen’s medical emergency.
Schmeichel told ITV’s Good Morning Britain when asked if the players decided to resume the game or that the players didn’t have a choice. UEFA didn’t allow much of a choice to the squad.
“I saw an official announcement by UEFA yesterday that said that they were following the advice of the players and they wanted to resume the match, I know that it’s not the truth. They were only left with three options, one was to go out and play immediately and finish the game, another was to come back next day and play in noon and the third option was to forfeit the match 3-0. Did the players had any appropriate choice? I don’t think they had. As you can see from yesterday’s press conference, the coach regrets playing the squad back on pitch.”

The traumatised players had to go back on the pitch and resume the leftover game and finish it in such conditions where they recently saw their teammate collapsed on the pitch received CPR and went on a stretcher for a medical emergency and the whole Football community was distressed.
Danish forward also claimed that the tense players didn’t want to restart the match as they were not in the condition to go back on the pitch but the squad were given only two choices by UEFA to choose and decide which included to finish the game either immediately or next day in the noon.
