On Monday, police said that an attempt was made to derail the Kalindi Express on route to Bhiwani from Prayagraj by placing an LPG cylinder on the railway rails in the Shivrajpur district.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning, when the train collided with the cylinder and came to a sudden halt. The impact threw the cylinder clear of the tracks, preventing a massive calamity, according to police officials.
Around 8:20 a.m., senior cops raced to the area to conduct an investigation. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and a forensic team were brought in to help with the investigation.
Harish Chandra, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), revealed that the loco pilot observed the cylinder on the rails and immediately used the emergency brakes. Despite colliding with the object, the train was able to come to a halt before causing any further damage.
Following the collision, the train stayed on the scene for 20 minutes before being stopped again at Bilhaur station for further inspection. Authorities discovered the damaged cylinder, as well as a petrol bottle and matchboxes, from the scene, increasing suspicions of foul activity.
ACP Chandra acknowledged that efforts are underway to identify individuals involved, adding that the perpetrators will face severe legal consequences. There were no injuries recorded, and the Kalindi Express resumed its journey right away the incident.
